The Sandbox

Welcome to the sandbox blog.

I happened to be browsing through my source code drive a few weeks ago and I noticed that there were many projects with a lot of code just sitting out there collecting dust.  I realized that just like any other time I change goals or business plans that there is usually a closet or filing cabinet somewhere that needs to be cleaned out.  The contents of “the closet” are usually discarded or given away to those who will use them – occasionally put to use elsewhere.

That’s pretty much the case here.   To date I’ve avoided getting involved in the blogosphere due to constraints on my time.  Given the type of item to be given away though I believe that it’s much simpler for me to upload code to a personal blog rather than join one of the numerous code project sites and manage it according to someone else’s rules.  I have to admit though that the thought of luring people to a blog with free source code has a certain appeal of it’s own.

I’m keeping in mind too that with giving away code there is the very real possibility that few people will notice and even fewer may be interested after actaully seeing it.  I’m cool with this.  Being a coder myself I understand that the siren song of free source code often lands you on the sharp rocks of wasted time and effort.  That’s why I make no promises that anything you find is is useful for anything other than wasted time and effort – except perhaps a good laugh.

So in the next few months I’ll be uploading various code snippets from many different types of projects including Classic ASP, VB6, and my ongoing efforts at C#.  If you happen to find it useful then good for you.  I’d go back farther in my past and drudge up some PL/1, or Fortran but I haven’t seen anyone coding those in a while.  I hear tell that there’s a compiler for them somewhere in the .NET realm.  I wonder how Visual Studio 2010 can read these punch cards. The more pressing problem is how I can make them downloadable?
